To make sure your goals are clear and reachable, each one should be:
- Specific (simple, sensible, significant).
- Measurable (meaningful, motivating).
- Achievable (agreed, attainable).
- Relevant (reasonable, realistic and resourced, results-based).
- Time bound (time-based, time limited, time/cost limited, timely, time-sensitive)
You ask these questions to yourself and your answers are the key to your success.
First is to be specific. To state clearly who is your target, what is your aim and what do you want to accomplish?
Your goal should be measurable so that a clear direction to the goal is visible.
Your goal also needs to be realistic and attainable to be successful. In other words, it should stretch your abilities but still remain possible. When you set an achievable goal, you may be able to identify previously overlooked opportunities or resources that can bring you closer to it.
Make sure that your plans drive everyone forward, but that you're still responsible for achieving your own goal. Check whether they are worthwhile in current times.
And most importantly, set a target date for achieving your goal.
